Liam's August - He's 9 months old!

Seriously, 3/4 of his first year has already passed? Crazy! And what an amazing 9 months it's been. Here's a recap of Liam's eighth month, covering the month of August. We've been so busy with all the big developments in September that this is pretty late... but we have been blessed with lots of visitors and have been fantastically busy just playing with and loving on our precious boys!

Sounds and gestures he makes -

*He started clapping on August 1st and wants us to clap with and for him all the time. He also says "yeah" when he claps and is so proud of himself. He loves to find any opportunity to clap. And will even do it out of the blue just to practice his new skill. He also does it to get our attention now and to keep himself awake when he starts drifting off :)

*Music to my ears! He says "mama"! It's actually more like "muh ma ma mum", and most often when he's tired, sad, scared or just wants me to hold him. So cute!

*He could already say "dada", and after adding "yeah" and "mama" at the beginning of the month he just kept right on going! "All done" (with the sign) came around the 4th and then "ut oh" on the 20th of this month. He also has made numerous cute cute cute attempts at "more" and "cooper" (the last because I think it's the word he hears me yell the most during the day thanks to my furry little garbage thief :)).

*He signs "more", which looks just like he's clapping... except he doesn't say "yeah". And he expects you to know which one he's doing. If you start to clap with him, when he was really signing "more" he'll get mad and growl... it's adorable, of course, but I don't think he appreciates my giggling.

*He loves to pat us on the back when we're holding him, just like we pat him.

Big moves -

*We have a scooter! On August 3rd, he started scooting and by the 5th it was all out forward movement (with a roll to his left side to help him inch and stretch forward) towards anything he wants. But then, it stopped as soon as it started and he began moving backwards... and getting quite frustrated about it. He goes backwards on his tummy and backwards on his bum in the sitting position. And then yells out for help as he continues to move further away from his goal. Then, by the 9th of August he began crawling forward out of a sitting position to reach a nearby object and then pushing himself back up into a sit. He can do this in about a 300 degree span of floor space and will turn to reach the remaining area behind him. The crawl doesn't go out past that though, as his doting big brother still fetches whatever he needs, and he has decided to spend most of his energy perfecting a lot of new gestures and words.

*He does love to pull himself up on us and crawl all over our legs and laps. And gets so excited when you stand him up in your lap. So I think that might be his next conquest.

Eating and Drinking -

*He drinks very well from a regular cup (while we help him hold it) and is figuring out his sippy cups. He mostly likes to turn them upside down and shake the water out onto his high chair tray where he can splash and play in it.

*He's now fully eating three meals with the family and mostly just nursing at wake up, before bed and then after each meal.

*He LOVES German bread... it's the one item that you can find anywhere at most any time and you know what it's made of so it's safe to give our proud little self feeder.

*He expects to have a taste (or more) of everything we're eating or drinking. And although I like his adventurous palate... there are a few things he's just not ready for, whether he agrees or not :) He gets especially verbal if his big brother has a Popsicle or ice cream cone. That's one time the German bread just doesn't cut it!

Just for fun -

*He kicks like a wild man at his brother and can't wait to wrestle, in fact he already tries to any time Ben gets close enough!

*He "talks" to us all the time, all day long, about everything. And especially likes to yell back to kids he hears. Most recently he's taken to talking OVER us... which is pretty funny, but does make it hard to carry on a conversation. We just have to stop and giggle with him.

*He loves to shred tissues and napkins. In fact the first thing he does when he gets his hands on anything like tissues or paper is to concentrate really hard on trying to rip it apart.

*One of his favorite games is soccer. He loves it when we hold him up so he can kick and try to dribble the ball around the floor. He just giggles and giggles.

*He plays so well on the carpet with toys, for a really long time.

Does NOT like it -

*He doesn't just arch his back... but makes his body as straight as a board and completely resists bending to protest being put in his car seat or laid down when he doesn't want to. But it doesn't last... a quick kiss or tickle, or a toy to hold soon makes him forget all about his protest.

*Don't pick him up just to put him down again somewhere else... he wants a little cuddle time with his mama first!

Sweet Slumber -

* I just love to cuddle with my boys and am so thankful that we do.

*He still takes 3 naps on most days, and at least 2 really good ones on the others.

Firsts and New Developments -

Aug 1st: first time in Church nursery as he's not as content to just sit quietly
Aug 5th: wants to feed mommy, why not... she's always feeding him! So sweet.
Aug 6th: plays peek a boo by hiding his face with a blanket all by himself... but sometimes holds it too far above his head while looking at you with a big grin and starting to hold his hands up high for "how big is Liam"... but then expects a tickle so he screeches and pulls them back down :)
Aug 7th and 8th: going from a sitting position towards a crawl position to see if he can at first Aug 8th: getting really good at the pincher grasp
Aug 9th: starting to dump things out and put them back into containers, enthusiastically
Aug 18th: loves to stand with our help, a lot... and always giggles when he first gets into that position
Aug 22nd: likes to talk over us and calls out to get our attention and laughs

AND NOW FOR PICTURES!

Having so much fun sight seeing and exploring whether by carrier or stroller... what a happy camper he is, such a joy to travel with.

Pondering life while vacationing in the Bavarian Alps... couldn't resist the photo op!
I love his adorable real closed-lip smile.

Every knight in training needs his own wrecking ball! This one was soft, of course. We've had lots of fun at the medieval fests.

Liam at Neuschweinstein castle!

A family shot with our sweet 9 month old.

Liam and mommy at the Heidelberg castle.

Liam and mommy in Rothenburg ODT.
One of our many climbs up tiny steep staircases, this time in the Rathaus in RODT. I'm getting in great shape carrying L all over Europe. The plan is to keep shrinking as fast as he's growing... we'll trade chub hopefully :) He needs it much more then me.
Snoozing together on a tour bus... he can sleep anywhere and at most any time if he's with mommy. It comes in very handy for wanting to travel a lot while we're here.
Daddy's turn with the Ergo carrier, Liam was the least impressed with the view :)
Time for his afternoon nap.
He's such a good boy at restaurants, which is a bonus because most Europeans don't eat out with their children.
One of his favorite things to do with daddy.
Just us dudes, hanging out on the couch.
OK, OK, I'll smile... just stop tickling my knees!
Super Liam!
Some serious exercising with my big brother for inspiration.
I've really gotten this thing going this month!
You saw us on the up, and here we are on the down... my mommy does a good job catching every phase :)
Playing hide and seek in my highchair, that big brother of mine sure is inventive.
I see you!
Mommy always tells him good job for being so sweet and gentle even though I can get a little crazy trying to wrestle him... I can see the unleashed crazy in his eyes though. We're going to have quite the throw downs in the near future, and we can't wait!
Moral support on my brother's first day of school... we walk, well I ride really, most weekday mornings.
Now for some Grandpa time! I have always saved some extra special smiles and cuddles for my grandpa, I was drawn to him from the beginning. Mommy says it's because he's so loving, attentive and fun! I think she's trying to butter him up so he'll keep being the king of diaper changes when he visits our castle!
You're so silly grandpa!
I would be staring at him and giggling, even when he didn't realize it. I just expected fun times any time he was near!
Another fun meal with grandpa.
Grandpa helped me with the ladies by styling my cool mohawk :)

He even carries me in the baby carrier, now that's devotion!

My grandma thinks I hung the moon too! She was extra inventive with her scarf in Bavaria when mommy and daddy forgot my carrier.

She makes every toy extra fun! This dragon had the coolest voice and tricks!
Would you like to take another picture of sweet 'ol adorable me?I was just getting ready to help mommy with her hat for the 50th time today.
Why is it that parents think just switching arms will do the trick? I don't give up that easily :) I can help you too if you would like.
This is my classic gerber mouth pose.
Check out my new trick! Once I get started I just can't stop! Who doesn't love a little applause... it makes any task or game more fun! Sometimes I'll throw in a "yea" for good measure. And I don't just reserve it for celebrations... there are all sorts of reasons to clap... including just to get your attention or to point out to you something great I'm doing that you might not have realized deserved applause!!
Still love to hold my feet. Some kids have favorite toys or lovies... I have these cute chubby feet!
You like them too? Ok then, let's celebrate with a little clapping!
Well don't just watch... join in!
I'm getting a little sleepy, but don't worry. Clapping is also good for helping me keep myself awake! Just when I'm in danger of drifting off... I can last at least a few more minutes by clapping myself back awake :)
Oh good, you've got the camera back out... have I shown you how I can clap and say "yea"?
The best thing about a mom is they never get tired of watching you perform.
Pretty amazing, isn't it mom?
He's so serious about it sometimes, it's precious!
Target identified!
This is hard work!
Slight distraction... is that a piece of fuzz!?!
Time out for a little rest.
A good dose of praise and encouragement from my mommy reenergizes me!
I moved from low crawling to scooting on my bottom...
scooting backwards that is... the exact opposite way I was trying to go!
First time in my big boy carseat!
Mommy caught me checking out a cute baby in the mirror when she was getting the bathtub ready for Ben and I...
She watched me quietly for a while, and was delighted to see me give my reflection a big kiss!
And another... and another!
Then I realized I was being watched...So I rolled over and turned my undeniable charm on her.
It's absolutely impossible for her to resist my affection and sweet crooning! Putty in my hands!
The best way to play... in my birthday suit.
What a lucky baby I am... I'm always getting loving from my big brother!
So excited to be included in my brother's big boy play! Mommy wants to edit out all the weeds in the picture, but didn't know how. She says she's too busy playing with her boys to pull weeds.
Why is everyone staring at me? :)
Rolling out the barrell... with a little sip from mommy's stein of water. This restaurant only serves drinks in steins.
Mommy even thinks I'm adorable when I'm covered in my favorite... sweet potatoes!
Everyone things I'm working on teeth... both mommy and my big brother got theirs at 9 and 1/2 months... so it could be any time now.
Still working on drinking from a sippy cup... mommy taught me early how to drink from a regular cup and water bottle, with her help of course, and I don't use bottles... so I haven't really gotten the concept down perfect yet.
But I do enjoy it when she takes the no leak valve out and I can shake the water out onto my tray. I'm much more excited about that then I am at trying to drink from these strange things. I just fuss for a sip from mommy's glass when I get thirsty.
So happy about splashing in the puddle I've made! You wanna play too?
Woooh hoooh!Eating breakfast up close and personal with mommy while my highchair was drying from a major hose down... I guess I can be a little messy :)
Drifted off during story time with my big brother on mommy's and daddy's big comfy bed... kind of puts the crib mattress to shame :)
I'm awake, but I shouldn't be, cause I'm still really tired, but where is my mommy!?!
It still baffles me how he can be comfortable without a pillow yet. Love the view of the chubbed out thighs.
Adorable whether awake or asleep. When he's really tired, he'll occasionally roll from his side partially over to his tummy... it's much much more common to find him on his back though.
Oh my goodness, I love every single precious inch of this little guy... from his slightly curled down ears to his puddgy cute toes! Here's a shot of his especially adorable feet. I love the way he still holds them tucked together.

Seriously, it's just not possible that anyone could love someone as much as we love our boys!

We'll be right back with our "Liam is 10 Months Old" post!
