Ben has always loved music... playing it, singing it, dancing to it...
Our whole family really enjoyed Kindermusik, and look forward to doing it again after the new baby comes. In the meantime however, Ben has been doing a good job keeping up his musical skills. He has been into making up his own songs for a couple months now. The latest one has to be my favorite. First a little background. I know most kids go through a "why" stage. Ben has been in his for well over a year now and wouldn't dare stop at just "why". So, I answer questions from the moment we wake up until bedtime when I finally have to say, "OK sweetheart, no more talking and no more questions. We'll discuss this tomorrow. It's time to be quiet and go to sleep." (I'm not kidding.) And as long as his curiosity has been mostly satisfied that day, he takes this pretty well and will say "OK mommy, good night." But satisfying that curiosity isn't always easy. I've developed a few common phrases to help me through the day. One of my favorites being "they've been to special training or took a special class to learn how to do it/drive it/work it". Not only does this help explain why mommy doesn't know exactly how the firemen work the big ladder trucks, but it's also an attempt to deter him from trying things that should only be done under supervision and with instruction. But silly me, I forgot the way an almost 3 year old's mind works. Wouldn't you know it, he's now secretly been to a number of "special classes" himself... hence his latest song...
"And if you don't knoooooooooow... I will tell youuuuuuu... because I've been to a special claaaaaaaaass... yeah if you don't knoooooooooow... I will tell youuuuuuu... because I've been to a special class!"
(This time singing about why he can touch jaguars even though they have sharp teeth and claws, apparently I wasn't aware that he's been to a special zoo keeper class. So much for mommy's innocent, "let's build a zoo for our animals" activity earlier this week :))

This is hilarious. Someday I want to guest blog and tell all about my recent conversation with Ben in the parking lot of Hobby Lobby ... because his "other" song is my favorite. (wink, wink)
