Over the course of the last week, Benjamin has decided to invent his own language. At first I thought he was just being silly and putting strange syllables together, but I quickly realized that there were actual words in his language that had meanings associated with them. I am impressed with his creativity, although it's not always used at the most convenient times for me :) Nonetheless, I think I've been immersed for long enough in this new dialect to be able to begin a sort of dictionary of Benjanese....jpg)
stackna = a type of snack he likes to request often; seemed to be satisfied with a banana after numerous attempts; apparently interchangeable with donna
donna = see stackna above
abockah = something he wants me to help him find; today it was one of his cars, but yesterday it was a game; always though something he either can't find or can't reach
binky = a strange dance he does where he sticks his tongue out and flails his body around
stonna = what he calls his friends
glickie = time to put on our space gear... at which point he begins to put on his imaginary space helmet and boots and then offers to help me with mine
And just when I think I can't take it anymore... I say, "I'm sorry honey, but Mommy doesn't understand you, what is stackna (or donna, or abockah... etc)" to which he replies, "that's just what it's called, silly!" And then he throws his head back and laughs :) Nice.
