Mommy and Ben Time

One of my biggest goals each day is to have a little special one-on-one time with Ben. Liam usually complies by taking a few naps... at least one that I can use to focus solely on Ben for an hour or so. We do our learning time, reading time, art time, and play time... all our favorite times together. We do a lot more playing with Liam (in his bouncer, on a blanket or in the sling) when he's awake and try to get outside for a walk or game. And, of course, our week includes lots of outings too... but back to special mommy and Ben time... we've been working through the Core Knowledge preschool series, Picture Book activities by Trish Kuffner, the Kummon workbooks, Bible devotion activities for preschoolers, and Boz the Bear God's World workbook.

Today we colored pictures of faces, worked on recognizing his name and distinguishing it from others, played hide and seek by "finding that sound" (which means I crouched down in the shower and played his bath horn while he tried to find me by following the sound... etc....), danced and sang I'm a Little Teapot and Here we go Round the Mulberry Bush, made puppets to use while we read our George and Martha stories, made rice crispy treats, made a mosaic with alphabet noodles (sounding out and spelling some easy words and names), read a Bible story about sharing and made a sharing poster. Oh, and we played a little superheros and trains, attended Bible study and gymnastics and took a nap where I made sure he got extra just-him cuddles. There's lots of free play and downtime too. He gets to watch a couple shows (today was between the lions), although I'd like to keep TV to an hour or less. There are lots of snacks and meals. A few heart to hearts about behaviour and discipline. And then there's daddy time too... at lunch if he makes it home and when he gets home from work (today they played indoor soccer and hockey and more trains). Oh and of course I'm still invited to go to the potty with him every time :) Isn't amazing that with all that, I can still feel like he's not getting enough attention. That's OK though, I'm just still so darn happy that I get to be here at home to have days like this... and ones where we don't do anything at all.

Here's a little view of one of our days last week:
