The Really Hot Place...

Here's a little taste of my latest good parenting attempt gone bad :)

situation:
Marc comes home from work, and as is customary we share our day, the good and the bad. So I attempt to assist Ben in telling his daddy about the important lesson we learned earlier. Here's how our conversation went...

"Ben, tell Daddy what happened earlier today."

"Satan made me lie."

(Daddy's eyes get really big and he works to fight back a smile.)

"OK, well, yeah, you didn't tell mommy the truth, and, well, what happens when we don't tell the truth?"

"You go to the really hot place!"

(Daddy has to excuse himself while I try to bring a little more clarification to our earlier lessons.)

explanation:
Uncle Brad and Aunt Kristin gave us a special parenting book for Christmas this year. Basically it's a reference manual for discipline based on the scriptures. It helps you teach your children to obey, and more importantly helps with the wonderful "why" questions. And it suggests Bible verses you can read on numerous discipline topics with suggested courses of action and punishment.
I was excited because it is very important to me that Benjamin doesn't just obey, but that his heart is in the right place. That he ends up wanting to obey because he wants to honor his parents and most importantly bring glory to God. Which can be hard to foresee with a baby/toddler, but I think it's time for us to start striving/praying/lovingly guiding towards that end goal. But how, arg!?! So anyway, this book offers some help.
Well, that was my first attempt at using it...gone bad :)

Definitely one of the top 10 Ben stories ever. Hee hee. That's all I'm gonna say.
