Happy Easter 2009

This is such a special holiday in our family, for good reason... Jesus Christ! Praise God, He Is Risen Indeed! We celebrated this year in North Carolina at Grandma and Grandpa Otis's house with Omi and PopPop Summers, who flew in to be with us one last time before we leave for Germany. We attended the University of Chapel Hill Methodist Church, went to the Governors Clubhouse for a delicious brunch, petting zoo and Easter egg hunt, before returning home to our own Easter basket treasure hunt and lots of fun family time just loving and playing.
Our family Easter shot!
The petting zoo was set up on the back patio of the clubhouse. They had all sorts of animals who were very friendly and loved all the attention.
Ben's favorite was this very friendly donkey.
He just couldn't get enough of this silly guy.
And Liam's favorite was this black and white goat.
He was quite a performer, the star of the show.
Like I said, Liam liked him a lot! His name was Fred and he was quite ornery... sort of like Grandpa (who happens to be named Dana FREDrick :)).
Marc, Liam (who didn't like the sun in his eyes), Jaimee and Benjamin
Liam, of course looking incredibly lovable!
The club had an unbelievable selection of breakfast and lunch foods, an amazing dessert bar, and a great kids' section with the ever famous chicken and mac n cheese. After a rather crazy Easter egg hunt up on the clubhouse grounds (imagine 40 some 3-5 year olds racing around, not all policed by parents, some pushing and some greedy overfilling of baskets... these things always make me so anxious - it's hard for my heightened sense of justice :))... we returned home for our own Easter egg and treasure hunt. Liam's basket, full of rattles, a mommy-baby yoga DVD and a bath puppet, along with a mini baby-sized bop bag penguin, were given to him. But Ben had to search for his. Here he is reading his letter and checklist with Daddy.
On the hunt for a few books, superhero eggs, chocolate and action figures.
Check out what I found!
A Transformer!
Once he found everything on his checklist inside, we headed outside for one more treasure. What an amazing location for a treasure hunt! Ben had a map to follow, created by mommy, that showed him - by pictures - where to go to find one last cool treat.
Following the map up the hill...
Searching...
Ah ha, I found another landmark from the map...
The grandma tree... where daddy's treat was hidden.

What a fun Easter. If you ask Benjamin why we celebrate Easter, he will tell you because "Jesus rose from the dead and went up to heaven with God. And now we get to too." And if you're willing to stick around for more discussion, he's very interested in the whole crucifixion too. Tough stuff, but we're just so blessed that He was willing to do it all for us!
Happy Easter 2009!
