Kicking off 2008 School Year at Home

I don't think I'll ever be a true homeschooler, but I do like to take some of their ideas and ideals and implement them in our home. We're going to review things Benjamin is learning in preschool this year... but also plan on supplementing with the books and games I mentioned in my previous post... as well as some pretty fabulous field trips (certainly by Altus, Oklahoma standards!). We had a great first week! We had so much fun doing all the activities together, and the best part was that we kept it flexible, easy and short! That was done intentionally in preparation for our little brother joining us, and I'm sure rocking our schedule at first, come this winter! And it helped that the firefighter competition and sesame street live were in town and that the rodeo is on it's way!

Here are some examples of what we did at home this week:
Doing our Bible study! Read on buddy!
Science time... snail exploration made even more fun with a giant magnifying glass!
Math time... shape matching!
Physical Education :) - tennis with Cooper and learning to wear our roller skating equipment!

Reading "If You Give A Mouse A Cookie", making cookies and straw ornaments and the acting out parts of the story!

OK, the mouse really does wash the floors in the book, and Ben really did think this was fun! It's not just child labor :)

Fun, fun, fun! And we still have some ABC block time, shaving cream construction trucks, learning to be patient using a timer "game" and sugar drawing left!
I'm not sure who's having more fun!

OK...Well, not that I have just caught up on your blog, I think I'm going to go back and re-write mine! ;-) jk Just please don't let Caden (and Owen and any of the others for that matter)ever read it all...he'll wonder why he got me instead of you! ;-)
Way to go Jaimee! You're a great teacher!

Wow, Jaimee. Can you teach me to be a good mommy teacher? Or maybe I could pay you to teach mine, too. :) I am definitely going to look for some of those books. I am feeling lazy and unmotivated. Got to get it together!
