Every night before we go to sleep we say the "Now I lay me down to sleep..." prayer I said growing up. Then we pray together, with me prompting him by starting sentences such as "God, please bless ____" and "God, thank you for ____" and even "God, help us to _____". Here's how Ben filled in some of the blanks last night:
(Mommy) "God, please help me to be _____"
(Ben) "SILLY!"
(Mommy) "OK, and how about, please help me to be ______" (with a serious eyebrow raised to try to show that I would like him to give a more appropriate answer)
(Ben) "a bad guy!"
(Mommy - after a little pep talk/lecture as to why we don't want to be a bad guy) "and God, PLEASE HELP ME TO BE ______"
(Ben - either finally getting the point or just wanting to be done with it) "BE GOOD! And be NIIIIIIICE and obey... and be nice and to listen and to not say bad words like stupid and kill AND TO LISTEN!"
(Mommy) "AMEN!"
