I'm a Big Boy now...

Once again, Ben is thrusting us both into another "all grown up" milestone. I know I should be happy, and I am, but it's always a little bit of a shock to me when it happens... especially when it wasn't even my idea. Anyway, he's decided that I need to just give him a kiss and then leave at naptime. No story, no cuddles, no back pats... "just leave mom, you go out there". So I did and then thourougly enjoyed sipping my tea while hearing him talk it through. I could hear him tell his teddy bear and Boz (another bear) "you can't get down, it's nap time", and "you have to go to sleep". He went through a whole two sided conversation too, where he told himself he couldn't get up yet and then got upset with himself for saying that. And finally, he started just calling for me. Over and over and over and over. I went in the first couple times to tell him that I was still here and that I would be resting too but that he had to take a nap right now (only because of the huge yawns and laying down on the living room floor after returning from preschool after lunch). He called "mommy" a few more times, and when I went in he said the same thing every time... "mommy, you got to go out there, you need to leave". Hmmmm? Did he just want to make sure I was right outside his room? Or did he want to make sure I would stay out there despite what I heard coming from his room if he decided to get up and play? Or, did he just want to talk it through a little bit and make sure we both understood our new roles? Regardless, I was impressed with his persistance as I stopped counting once he reached about 100 "mommy(s)" and then started to make up a song using the word. Finally he asked for a story and I gave him my best effort at a very calming but repetiously boring story about going horseback riding. I have to be careful because just about anything leads to questions, LOTS of questions! And I have to make sure, of course, that there is a daddy, a mommy and a little boy in it. Too cute!
I do think I need to look into one of those video monitors... I'm sure it will come in handy for future children too :)
love,
the mommy

Cute! What big boys we have! And such fun to see them together recently! LOVE my video monitor (yes, i used to think they were ridiculous, but now can't live without it!)

another vote for the video monitor! It's addicting though, I warn you now!

Is Ben like the cutest kid ever to grace the planet with all his cute sayings and quirks? I think so. (mine are cute too, but in a different way)

I about melted reading he told himself he couldn't get up, then got mad at himself for saying so. Just precious.

Another story we loved. I have to make a copy of the play book. Thank you for these memories of Ben growing up. :-)
