Happy Thanksgiving 2009

We had Thanksgiving this year at our home in Rodenbach Germany.

We did our traditional puzzles, games, crafts, watching of the parade and a little football... and of course the big Thanksgiving dinner. We didn't do our annual hike because of rain, but we'll try to get out tomorrow. There are so many beautiful paths by us.

We are so thankful for our loving God, our family near and far, our country, our home, the chance to live in Germany for a few years and good friends like the Kuppers!

We invited our first and dearest German friends over for Thanksgiving dinner this year. Ramon and Dorothe' Kupper, and their children Lukas and Laura, joined us for turkey with all the fixings!

We ate and played and visited and had a delicious meal complete with turkey, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes with marshmallows, green bean casserole, hawaiian sweet rolls, brocolli and a wonderful German cheesecake made by Dorothe'. Marc brought delicious wine back from Georgia (the country) and of course we had great German bier.

The kiddos played lots of legos, knights and wrestled the daddies.

We are so very very blessed! I hope we can continue this new tradition while we live over here to share our special American holiday with our special German friends.

Here are some pictures of the day... I can't believe I forgot to get a full family shot or even to be in one aside from an early morning game playing shot with Benjamin, pre-shower even! Better luck next holiday :)

Benjamin and I on a break from some intense puzzles and games!
Benjamin loves to help us in the kitchen. He calls these experiments... just cause there is fun pouring and mixing involved, it has nothing to do with the quality of Daddy's cooking :)
Liam was a big helper too, of course! Here he is steadying Benjamin's stool for him.
The turkey and the chef at the beginning of the day...
... and at the end, right before dinner. Don't they both look great! :)
The table all decked out. I had grandiose ideas for a homemade Mayflower ship centerpiece, foot/hand print turkey place mats and an "I'm Thankful For" jar. But the flu last week set us back, so we'll just have to save those for next year.
Laura, Lukas and Benjamin working on their scratch art turkeys.
Benjamin is proud of his letters... he's been really interested in working on them lately, which I love because it's been his idea.
We couldn't leave out Liam, of course! So here he is working on his with Daddy's help.
His expression clearly says... "Grandma/Omi, can you believe these two are letting me hold this sharp stick thing? Come here, quick!"
Dorothe' brought special German chocolate eggs with a surprise toy inside for the children. She is an expert at the assembly they require. They are a really special treat!
Time for my second dinner :) followed by turkey coma. And tomorrow, our first Christmas market. What a great holiday season we've been blessed with!
